Outpatient maternity services
Our outpatient services are available to women who are booked to deliver their baby, or recently gave birth, at our hospital.
Antenatal clinic appointments are located in Outpatient Clinic 5 on the ground floor of the main hospital building – see the hospital map (PDF 1MB).
Every time you come to hospital, please bring your National Woman Held Pregnancy Record, especially for clinic visits or if you think you may be in labour.

These clinics provide care for women who have medical, gynaecological, past obstetric and present pregnancy health conditions that require obstetric medical review.
Diabetes in pregnancy service
The Diabetes in pregnancy service cares for women whose pregnancies are complicated by gestational diabetes requiring insulin. At this multidisciplinary clinic appointment you will see multiple health professionals. Read about our Diabetes in pregnancy clinic.
Medical disorders in pregnancy
This consultancy and referral service cares for pregnant women with underlying complex medical conditions including:
- high blood pressure (hypertension)
- heart disease
- kidney disease
- endocrine disorders other than diabetes in pregnancy
- blood (haematological) conditions and diseases
- immunological disorders
- liver disease.
Your doctor will refer you to this clinic if appropriate.
Maternal and fetal medicine obstetric
The Maternal Fetal Medicine team provide diagnosis, surveillance, management and care for complex high-risk pregnancies which are complicated by maternal and/or fetal conditions requiring tertiary care.
Next birth after caesarean
This clinic is for women who have had a previous caesarean section.
Our staff will assist you to make an informed choice for the method of birth in this next pregnancy by providing evidence-based information on the benefits and risks of:
- birth after caesarean section
- elective repeat caesarean section
The appropriate counselling for care during labour and delivery (intrapartum care) is provided if a trial of labour after caesarean section is chosen
Records from your previous birth will be requested and reviewed by the obstetric team to ensure that the appropriate method of birth is advised.
Karri Clinic
Our Karri Clinic is for women who require multidisciplinary care.
Midwifery led clinics
The midwifery led antenatal clinic reviews all low-risk women throughout their antenatal period ensuring continuity of care.
If these women become high-risk during their pregnancy, they are transferred to an obstetric led clinic for review.
Aboriginal maternal health program
We support the provision of culturally safe midwifery care for all Aboriginal women and want to ensure your time with us is positive and culturally respectful.
We also have an Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer (AHLO) available to provide support
Our 7-day-a-week Visiting Midwifery Service provides expert midwifery care at home to mothers and babies suitable for an early discharge.
Your midwife will refer you and your baby to this service if:
- you return home from the hospital within give days of giving birth
- you or your baby require daily assessment by a midwife.
This service is free to current Medicare card holders.
Each day for 5 days, a midwife will visit you at home to care, support and assist you and your family with your new baby. If you are expecting a visit from the service, please stay home until you have seen your midwife.
During these visits your midwife will:
- complete the same health checks you and your baby would receive if you were still in hospital
- provide feeding support and parenting information
- be available to answer any questions you may have.
If you have any medical concerns your midwife will contact your obstetrician, paediatrician or general practitioner (GP) as required.
After five days, you and your baby you will be discharged from the service if your midwife has no concerns about your health and wellbeing.
To provide with ongoing support, we recommend you your local community child health nurse. Read more about child health appointments (external site).

A 7-day-a-week lactation consultant is available whilst you are an inpatient at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
Women who have given birth at Fiona Stanley Hospital can also make an outpatient appointment to see a lactation consultant in the 6 weeks after your baby’s birth to support you with breastfeeding.

Our parents-to-be are encouraged to attend our free* parent education classes. (* Please note if you do not hold a current Medicare card you will be charged to attend these education classes.
Bookings for all education classes can be made by the clerical staff.

The WA Newborn Hearing Screening Program tests all newborn babies to identify any hearing loss. Read more about this screening (external site).
This screening is available onsite seven days a week, however if you go home early you can come to the clinic so this test can be completed.
