Volunteer with us

Help improve the experiences of our patients and their families

Volunteer with us

Each day, volunteers at Fiona Stanley and Fremantle hospitals deliver innovative and contemporary services to enhance the experiences of our patients, families and visitors.

The efforts of more than 400 volunteers across both sites complement the care and expertise provided by our healthcare staff. Under the coordination of our Volunteer Service, these volunteers deliver tailored support services including:

  • visiting patients in hospital wards
  • providing additional social support and engagement to patients identified as having a cognitive impairment
  • delivering newspapers to patients and assisting with shopping from onsite facilities
  • provision of tailored support to patients, by volunteers, with a lived experience
  • supporting dialysis patients during treatment
  • providing music, art and diversionary intervention within mental health and other areas of the hospital
  • emergency department support to visitors and patients
  • operating the patient clothing store and the provision of clothing to patients
  • assisting patients to order meals and provide support at mealtimes
  • volunteers with a lived experience or specific skills, assisting to run group sessions,
  • meet and greet ‘way finding’
  • supporting hydrotherapy patients
  • Fiona Stanley Hospital Outpatient Transport Service
  • Outpatient Transport Service Fremantle Hospital.

Please note some services above may not be available at both Fiona Stanley and Fremantle hospitals.

Our services are delivered by either general or specialist volunteers.

General volunteers perform a variety of services to support patients during their hospital stay. These activities occur during the day and evening, seven days a week and general volunteers can choose the frequency and timing of their volunteering.

The unique skills of our specialist volunteers enable them to provide patients with a unique service or activity, including:

  • art workshops
  • the Mother and Baby Mental Health Unit Cuddles Service
  • music
  • needlecraft
  • volunteer drivers
  • tailored support services.
