Parent education classes

Parent education classes

Our parents-to-be are encouraged to attend our free* parent education classes. (* If you do not hold a current Medicare card you will be charged to attend these education classes.)

Please see the flyer in your information pack for current dates.

Bookings for all education classes can be made by speaking with our maternity clerical staff.

Midwifery Matters

This online forum via Microsoft Teams discusses evidence-based care provided at Fiona Stanley Hospital and includes discussions about health, exercise, birth options and pain relief options to meet individual needs.

This is an opportunity to discuss any questions you have about your pregnancy and birth with a midwife and physiotherapist.

Time: 1.00pm to 3.00pm
Day: fortnightly on a Wednesday
Venue: Microsoft Teams
Dates:  Please check with clerical staff for available dates

Breastfeeding Matters

Our online breastfeeding forums via Microsoft Teams are designed to provide you with education and information that will assist you establish and maintain breastfeeding. You will be given lots of opportunities to discuss topics that you are interested in and ask questions along the way. Two hours flies by as you learn how to get breastfeeding started off well!

Time: 1.00pm to 3.00pm
Day: fortnightly on a Wednesday
Venue: Microsoft Teams
Dates: Please check with clerical staff for available dates

Active birth classes

This 3-hour online class via Microsoft Teams focuses on the use of movement and different positions to help you manage your labour. Both you and your baby can have a better birth experience through:

  • moving around during labour
  • staying upright during birth
  • using your preferred position to birth.

Time: 9.00am to 1.00pm
Day: third and fourth Saturday of the month
Venue: Microsoft Teams

Birth Course

This face-to-face 16-hour antenatal course run over 2 days combines knowledge about birth hormones, effective partner support and evidence-based techniques.

It also provides holistic education to help reduce interventions and improve outcomes for mothers and babies.

Time: 9.00am to 3.00pm
Day: 1st and 2nd Saturday of each month (2-day course)
Venue: Fiona Stanley Hospital Education Building, level 1, seminar room 1.6.
