Youth mental health

Youth mental health

Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG) provides mental health services to youth, adults and older adults.

Some of these services are only available to consumers in the FSFHG mental health catchment. Other services are available to consumers across the broader South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) mental health catchment. The SMHS mental health catchment map (PDF 262KB) lists suburbs in the FSFHG and SMHS catchments. Some services are also available to consumers from across Western Australia.

Youth mental health services across Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group consist of the following:

  • a 14-bed inpatient Youth Unit for young people aged between 16 and 24 years
  • a 7-day-a-week Youth Community Assessment and Treatment Team (YCATT) which provides a time limited, person-centred recovery-focused approach to youth aged 16-24 years
  • Youth Hospital in the Home (Y-HiTH), which provides services for up to 12 patients for a period of up to 2 weeks
  • YouthReach South, which provides counselling, therapy and care coordination to young people aged 13 to 24 years who experience barriers to accessing mainstream services.

Youth mental health patients may also be referred to the Kara Maar Specialist Community Eating Disorder Service (external site). This service is coordinated by South Metropolitan Health Service and provides comprehensive clinical assessment and treatment for individuals aged 16 years and over who have a diagnosed eating disorder.
