About our maternity care
At Fiona Stanley Hospital, our maternity services provide safe, high-quality care and a full range of birthing options throughout your pregnancy and birth journey.
Our woman-centred model of care offers gynaecology, maternity and neonatal services to low-risk women and those with complex medical and obstetric issues.
Our services include:
- outpatient medical and midwifery antenatal clinics
- inpatient wards
- birthing suite and induction of labour suite
- Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit (Ward 3D)
- Family Birthing Centre and Midwifery Group Practice.
The maternity service has close links with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which cares for sick and premature babies.
Complex fetal medicine services, including births under 28 weeks, are not provided at our hospital and will be transferred to King Edward Memorial Hospital (external site).
We are committed to providing general practitioner (GP) shared care, when you care is shared between the hospital and your GP according to the GP shared care guidelines. Please discuss with your doctor if you are suitable for this type of care.
We also offer specialist outpatient consultation and referral to all women in the south metropolitan area with medical conditions including:
- diabetes in pregnancy requiring insulin management.
- maternal fetal medicine
- medical disorders in pregnancy
- Karri clinic for complex care
- Aboriginal maternal health program
- next birth after caesarean.
Although you may have been referred to our hospital and attended our antenatal clinics, increased demand on our maternity unit on any given day may mean you are directed to another maternity hospital. Read more about our bypass practice.

As a private patient you are guaranteed no out-of-pocket expense and can access a range of benefits that help make your stay more comfortable. Read more about private patients (external site).

If you are not eligible for a Medicare card or reciprocal healthcare (external site), you:
