Preparing your mind for surgery
Being aware of how you feel about your surgery can help you make decisions and take actions that set you up for a quicker recovery and the best outcomes.
Each person has their unique response when they find out they need to undergo surgery. Take the time to acknowledge these feelings and know that they are normal responses.
It might help to think about how you have coped in difficult situations before and seeing if these strategies can help you now. This can include making time for self-care. For example, including regular physical activity at a level and pace that is safe for you can boost your mental health, engaging with a hobby, or talking with someone in your support network.
The video below explains some of the feelings you might have and how to support your recovery by being mentally prepared.
