Infectious Diseases

The Infectious Diseases service treats inpatients and outpatients with complex community and hospital-acquired infections, including infections in the immunocompromised. Our service is integrated with the major tertiary Infectious Diseases service at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Our Sexual Health service provides outreach clinical services in Fremantle and Rockingham, as well as clinics at Fremantle Hospital.

Our service takes primary responsibility for devising and implementing best-practice antimicrobial policies and protocols at Fremantle Hospital and has a lead role in the promotion of best-practice infection management and antimicrobial prescribing.

We also participate actively in the multidisciplinary diabetic foot ulcer and orthopaedic infection inpatient and outpatient services at Fremantle Hospital

Specialist psychological services with a focus on adjustment and mood disorders related to hepatitis C, HIV and sexual health are available within the department.

Hospital in the Home Clinic

This clinic reviews patient receiving home intravenous antibiotics under the care of the Infectious Diseases service.

There is the capacity for direct general practitioner (GP) referral of certain patients with conditions that may require home IV antibiotics (eg cellulitis, complicated and/or multiresistant urinary tract infections) for assessment and initiation of treatment in these clinics after direct telephone consultation with the on-site consultant infectious diseases physician.

Viral Hepatitis Clinic and HIV Outpatient Service

The Viral Hepatitis service and HIV Outpatient Service is based at Fiona Stanley Hospital's Infection and Immunity Service.
