General Medicine

General Medicine

Our General Medicine service provides adult inpatient and outpatient care for patients with acute medical illnesses, complications of chronic multisystem diseases and investigation of complex undiagnosed illnesses.

General Medicine is an integral part of the Acute and General Medicine Specialty across Fiona Stanley and Fremantle hospitals. It operates together with:

  • Fiona Stanley Hospital departments including:
    • Acute Medical Unit
    • Acute Medical Ambulatory Care
    • Ambulatory Emergency Care Centre
    • General Medicine Outpatient Clinic
    • Satellite Acute Medical Unit
  • Fremantle Hospital General Medicine Outpatient Clinic.

Services at Fiona Stanley Hospital

We provide:

  • 48 bed inpatient on Wards 6C and 6D for patients over 16 year with acute medical illnesses, complications/flares of chronic multisystem diseases and undifferentiated presentations
  • 4 outpatient clinics conducted weekly on average
  • diagnosis, treatment and complex discharge planning together with our Allied Health team.

Services at Fremantle Hospital

We provide a weekly outpatient clinic at Fremantle Hospital.

We also provide a comprehensive outpatient service for all subacute and chronic medical disorders and follow-up of medical inpatients.

The General Medicine Unit is in Ward 6C and 6D (level 6, blue lifts).

General Medicine outpatient clinics are held at the Outpatients Clinics on the ground floor, off the main concourse – see the Fiona Stanley Hospital map (PDF 1MB)

Opening hours

General Medicine Unit (Ward 6C and 6D)
Visiting hours are 8:00am – 8:00pm daily (unless otherwise advised by staff)

General Medicine Outpatient Clinics
1:00pm – 4:00pm, every Monday, Thursday and Friday
