Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG) Executive Director, Luke Dix dropped in to congratulate the Fiona Stanely Hospital (FSH) vaccination team on their recent flu fighting milestone – their 1000th community flu vaccination!

For the first time ever, this year both Fiona Stanley and Fremantle hospitals are offering a free flu immunisation program for the communitythat spans both adults and children.

FSH began offering the community flu vaccination onsite from 4 May, with Fremantle Hospital (FH) joining ranks on 28 May.

This now means anyone aged between 2 and 64 years can access their free, flu vaccination at either site.

This includes the needle‑free FluMist nasal spray influenza vaccine for children aged 2 to 11. Offering needle-free protection, the intranasal spray is a free, safe and effective alternative to guard children against influenza A and B, without the distress of a needle.

The walk-in community flu vaccination clinics are open as follows:

  • FSH – 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, located on the main concourse near the outpatient clinic entrance.
  • FH – 8am to 4pm, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, located on Level 5, in the Infection Control Clinic room.

There's no need to book – simply turn up and the friendly team will help complete the consent form, available here also: consent form online (external site).

FSFHG Executive Director Luke Dix acknowledged huge team effort in getting this set up for this first time, and the positive impact it would have on so many.

"As we head into the winter months and prepare for the annual surge in respiratory illness and hospital demand, vaccinations for children, staff and the community remain one of our best lines of defence.

"Making the most of opportunistic vaccination whilst people are onsite is just one of the ways we’re working to protect our community. We know that by having more people vaccinated overall, we help people stay healthy, avoid hospitals, and keep our staff safe and healthy.

"It's a mammoth effort coordinating not just the staff vaccination roll-out, but the community stream too, and it';s been amazing to see the team pull together and get this underway – it’s been a true team effort.

"We're proud to be offering this community stream for the first time, to protect everyone, at every age, this winter," Luke said.
