FluMist vaccination for children now available at Fiona Stanley Hospital
Influenza can cause serious illness and hospitalisation for children. Vaccination is our best line of defence.
Offering protection without injection, Fiona Stanley Hospital is now offering the new needle‑free, FluMist nasal spray influenza vaccine for any child aged 2 to 11 years.
The intranasal spray is a free, safe and effective alternative to guard children against influenza A and B, without the distress of a needle.
The FluMist program aims to increase vaccination rates to protect young children, reduce the spread of flu and alleviate pressure on our hospitals during the winter months.
Who can have FluMist?
Any child aged 2 to 11 years can have the FluMist vaccine at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Children do not need to be patients at the hospital to have the vaccine.
If parents do not prefer the FluMist nasal spray vaccine for their child, injectable vaccinations are also available.
Where can children have FluMist and do they need to book?
Parents can simply bring their child to the Community Vaccination Clinic on the hospital's main concourse between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday and complete their consent form. You can also complete your consent form online (external site).
There’s no need to book – parents and their children can just turn up. See the hospital map (PDF1MB).
The clinic also offers injectable vaccinations for people aged between 12 and 64 years of age.
