Harrison goes home for his first Christmas
For little Harrison of Byford, coming home for his first Christmas was the best gift of all for his family, after being born early at 29+3 weeks and weighing just 764 grams.
Having spent seven weeks and three days in the Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Harrison is now 8 weeks old, and mum Georgina is delighted he is home to share his first Christmas with his family.
Georgina had placenta previa during her pregnancy with Harrison.
“I started to bleed in my pregnancy and after being on bedrest for three weeks, it was decided Harrison would be safer if delivered early.” Georgina said.
Georgina had a caesarean section at another hospital before Harrison relocated to FSH.
“Harrison required immediate support once born, his dad accompanying him to the NICU, and once I was able to, I visited him,” Georgina said.
“It was hard to leave him behind once I was discharged, so it has been wonderful to have Harrison transferred closer to home at FSH so I can visit him regularly.”
FSH NICU Nurse Unit Manager Danielle Green said Harrison made great progress since his premature delivery and admission to FSH.
“Harrison came off continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and was now breathing independently,” Danielle said.
“He benefited from human donor milk early on and was able to have some breastfeeds with mum who expressed to keep her milk supply for Harrison.”
Georgina said she is so grateful for the care Harrison received at FSH and the best Christmas present was Harrison coming home.
“We took it day-by-day but hoped for a little Christmas miracle for his homecoming,” Georgina said.
