Theatre Flow Plus, a two-year project to improve theatre utilisation and optimise patient flow at Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG) has been launched on Tuesday 24 June.

Speaking at the launch, Acting Chief Executive Neil Doverty said that FSFHG operating theatre services were among the most advanced in the state and that the project built on the strong tradition of commitment to continuous improvement, safety, and patient-centred care.

"FSFHG is at the forefront of adopting cutting-edge technologies, including robotic surgery and enhanced recovery pathways, to improve patient experience and outcomes," he said.

"Our operating theatre services exemplify what can be achieved when clinical excellence, innovation, and compassionate care come together.

"We are committed to being a centre of excellence not only for our local community but for the broader WA health system and this project will set the standard for theatre utilisation across the public system."

The project, which is led by Associate Professor and Head of Department Fremantle Orthopaedics Omar Khorshid will look at ways to increase theatre capacity for the community.

This will include looking at hours of operation, digital solutions, allocation of resources and culture. Environmental and financial sustainability will also be taken into account and the solutions will look to improve patient and staff experience.

Assoc. Professor Khorshid said that project would be underpinned by data analytics and international best practice that would identify opportunities for improvement, including greater accountability for safety and performance.

"Our intention is to implement a solution that will allow us to redesign processes, streamline workflows, improve communication and allocate resources better," he said.

"This will bring important benefits to the community through enhanced flow and faster access to surgical procedures.

"Importantly from a sustainability perspective, it will help us reduce or eliminate environmental waste, reducing our carbon footprint and likely identifying cost savings that can go back into patient care."
