Tune in to see our junior doctors in action! WA documentary series premiering on SBS
South Metropolitan Health Service is pleased to announce Western Australian documentary series Junior Doctors Down Under will make its Australian debut on SBS Australia and SBS on Demand this Thursday 1 August at 8.25pm.
It follows three of our Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) junior doctors; Dr Javed, Dr Conor and Dr Caitriona, as they embark on their medical careers in Australia at the FSH Adult and Children’s emergency departments.
Ever thought your first day in a new job was stressful? Try being a junior doctor working in a fast-paced, life or death environment, on the other side of the world.
Filmed at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Joondalup Health Campus, the series captures junior doctors in their new jobs having made the move to Perth from the UK and Ireland. As our specialists and surgeons of tomorrow, junior doctors must complete a rotation working in an emergency department as part of their rigorous medical training. And now for the first-time through this series, viewers get to see just how brilliant our junior doctors are from the comfort of their homes – no emergency department admission needed!
We guarantee you will see some heartfelt, touching moments, as well as some laugh out loud ones too. What shines through is the compassionate care that even in the most demanding of environments doesn’t falter. We promise you won’t want to miss it.
Having already aired in the UK and following on from the success of the Children’s Hospital series (external site) which aired in 2022 featuring FSH staff, patients and families, local production company Prospero Productions have once again created a series reflective of the excellent work our teams do, providing the highest levels of care to Western Australians. A huge thank you to everyone that took part and allowed us to share your journey.
What you can expect in episode one: It’s day one in a new hospital in a new country and it’s the first time in an emergency department for the junior doctors. Doctor Javed is confronted by 22-year old car accident victim, Thomas. Dr Jolene’s first patient arrives by ambulance. Agitated and complaining of pain, he suffers a seizure. Dr Laura unravels the mystery of an elderly patient’s sore toe at risk of amputation. She finds the answer… but can she find her patient?
