Orthopaedic referrals
Our orthopaedic service is focused on the recovery and rehabilitation of adult patients referred with orthopaedic conditions including:
- acute and follow up trauma
- joint replacements
- revision of failed joint replacements and joint infections
- other general orthopaedic procedures both upper and lower limbs.
The orthopaedic service has strong links with Fremantle Hospital for planned and non-emergency orthopaedic care.
Patients over the age of 65 are admitted to FSH under the joint care of orthopaedic surgery and geriatric medicine. In the case of Aboriginal patients the age is reduced to over 55 years.
Routine outpatient referrals
With a high demand for new, non-urgent orthopaedic appointments, general practitioners (GPs) are asked consider appropriate conservative management options where possible.
Where referral to the orthopaedic service is required, GPs are asked send a referral letter including a copy of all imaging reports and details of any conservative management trialled to date.
